What is Outplacement?

Outplacement is a resource employers can provide to loyal, dedicated, hard-working managers and employees when economic or organizational demands dictate that they can no longer be retained in the company.  Outplacement training and counseling is a process of providing employees whose jobs have been eliminated with tools and strategies to conduct a successful job search and to face their job loss with confidence.  Well structured outplacement programs provide downsized employees with key advantages in finding gainful employment and weathering the job loss process faster and better than those that are provided no assistance.  Outplacement services are typically used for employee separations that are not related to performance, productivity or discipline-related issues. 

Qualifind Career Transitions (aka Qualifind CT) provides training and exposure to current job market conditions, networking strategies, effective use of Internet resources, resume preparation, interviewing skills, proper dress attire, working with recruiters and executive search firms, conducting research on potential employers, establishing a career plan, exploring business ownership or self-employment, benchmarking compensation data, negotiating salary and benefits, and successful career growth strategies once employment is secured. 

We also support this face-to-face or group training with a web-based Career Management application (QFCT Online) that allows participants to create multiple specialized resumes, cover letters, and video resumes within a Career Portfolio that can be used to present to potential employers and executive search firms.  This application allows ongoing support to our outplacement participants throughout their job search process.

 

Why Provide Outplacement?

Outplacement counseling provides the employee with key advantages that ultimately translate into finding employment faster.  Such programs cut through misperceptions about the job search process which results in wasted time and lost opportunity.  Outdated concepts of searching newspaper ads are put in their proper perspective in comparison to professional networking sites such as LinkedIn and Naymz.  Participants learn how to effectively partner with recruiters, research potential employers and networking strategies that deliver results.

Our customizable and scaleable outplacement programs serve to strengthen the relationship between you and your departing employees by demonstrating commitment to their future. Even if you're forced to terminate an employee, it is important to demonstrate respect for their skills and that you want to ensure that they thrive long after they leave your organization. Companies with a long term view toward acquiring and retaining talent are conscious of how they are perceived by both the retained employees and those being let go.  Such companies understand the importance of showing care and providing assistance versus simply terminating employees without regard.  The company also benefits by minimizing the impact on reorganization or downsizing and reducing risks of legal liability. 

Current economic conditions add to the anxiety of those employees that are retained and give them cause to wonder if they’re next in the downsizing process.  Although outplacement services do not completely eliminate employee anxiety, it does provide a measure of reassurance that if they are to be next, that they can expect the same assistance that was provided to previously terminated employees.

The adage that it’s “always better to find a job when you’re employed than when you are unemployed” has particular relevancy to how hiring managers naturally question the reasons an employee was terminated.  Hiring managers often approach the unemployed with a higher degree of skepticism due to such concerns.  Unemployed candidates that were provided employer-sponsored outplacement services have an advantage in the implication that they were valued by their employer and were terminated for reasons other than performance or productivity.

We have separate outplacement programs that are tailored to meet the needs of executives, middle managers, individual contributors and associate level employees.  Our programs can be delivered at company facilities in the U.S. or Mexico or at our Learning Center in the Chula Vista (Eastlake) suburb of San Diego, CA. 

We also have bilingual English and Spanish programs and advisors/facilitators in both languages.  We have been very successful at providing outplacement services to companies with maquiladora operations.  From the maquiladora’s management team in either the U.S. or Mexico to the administrative, technical and production staff at the maquila in Mexico – we offer programs scaled to each site and level of employee.
